Reagan Trail Days to expand this year
Dixon Main Street is delighted to head up the Reagan Trail Days events this year and our committee has already begun planning the great community event. This year, we are truly putting the "days" in Reagan Trail Days. Below is a tentative calendar of events for the festival coming this August.
August 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, & 16, 2009
Thursday, August 6
The First Annual Ronald Reagan Classic Golf Tournament. The tournament will be a scramble format with foursomes competing for the top prize. An awards reception will follow the outing. A great way to take in the course where Reagan once was a caddy.
Tuesday, August 11
Come enjoy an evening in the park at Reagan's Boyhood Home. The evening will feature a wine tasting and music. Tickets will go on sale this summer for this great event. For more information, contact Connie at 288-5176.
Wednesday, August 12
Walk the streets that Ronald Reagan walked during our Walking Tours of downtown Dixon. Local historians will lead you on your journey. Times and details to be announced.
Thursday, August 13
Community Picnic at Lowell Park. A perfect setting for an old-fashioned community picnic at Lowell Park, where Reagan once saved 77 lives as a lifeguard. Starting at 5 p.m., come enjoy free pontoon boat rides, enjoy a pork chop dinner, and stay for at movie under the stars.
Friday, August 14
The traditional and annual Ronald Reagan Gala. The wonderful evening, themed "Walk in the Park" celebrates Ronald Reagan and Dixon High School alumni that have gone on to do great things just as Ronald Reagan did. The evening will feature an elegant dinner, awards presentation, music and dancing. A can't-miss event! Tickets are $35 per person or $250 for a sponsored table of 8.
Saturday, August 15
A great family festival in downtown Dixon. Take a tour of the historic places in and around the downtown with a trolley ride. Hope off the trolley and explore what each historic site has to offer. Tours of the Reagan Home, Loveland Community House Museum, Dixon Historic Center, Dixon Public Library and more. The morning features a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Then come explore the downtown festival that includes, music, food and games, including the traditional Jelly Belly Tasting Contest. Then at 4 p.m. enjoy the annual Horse Parade as it comes along Hennepin Avenue.
Sunday, August 16
Annual Ronald Reagan Heritage Bike Ride. The ride starts in Dixon and makes its way along the Ronald Reagan Trail. Get the details at www.rrvbc.net or call 288-1079.
