Welcome to the Reagan Trail Days

Reagan Trail Days celebrates the heritage of its famous son and honors the accomplishments of other former citizens who have gone on to fulfill their lives as President Reagan has done. The event starts on Friday with the “Reagan Heritage Dinner Dance”, held at the former Dixon Country Club, where Reagan was a caddy in his teen years. Many sites, made famous by the president, will be open for tours on Saturday and are easily accessible by free trolley, hop on and off, tours throughout the day. Other interesting and entertaining activities include free pontoon rides on the Rock River at Lowell Park where Reagan is reported to have saved 77 lives as lifeguard.

A horse parade down “Reagan Way” and throughout the city commemorates President Reagan’s love of horses and his days at “Rancho Del Cielo”. The U.S. Navy band, and a contingent of sailors from the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan, have been favorite performers and attendees at Reagan Trail Days, though schedules and deployments make their participation indefinite for 2008.

For the first time, the “Reagan Heritage Bicycle Tour” from Lowell Park, down a portion of the famous “Ronald Reagan Trail” to Tampico, IL, his birthplace, then back to Dixon, is being planned for Sunday, August 17th.

Many fine restaurants and numerous overnight accommodations are available.
